Fort Kochi

A tiny fishing village and a Portuguese trading post, Fort Kochi thrived as the first European township in India. Later, the area was populated by the Arabs and the Jews and was frequented by the Chinese traders. Its crumbling Jew Town, cobbled streets, colonial-era churches & synagogues, and age-old Chinese nets on the beach add to its magical appeal. Visit its many quaint restaurants & cafes, delightful antiques shops and enjoy the sunset at the beach.

Mattancherry Palace

An architectural blend of Kerala and Dutch architecture, this beautiful palace showcases the royal wardrobe, arms, coins, stamps and portraits of the Cochin royalty. The palace is notable for exquisite murals and frescos depicting various events from the Indian mythology.

Vypeen Island Zone

The place where Lake Vembanad merges into the Arabian Sea, this tiny island zone has now turned into a bustling tourist spot. Connected to Cochin by a series of bridges, this beautiful island is home to secluded beaches, crumbling forts and gorgeous landscapes.

St. Francis’ Church, Fort Cochin

Built by the Portuguese in 1503, this church is believed to be the oldest European-built Church in India. Vasco De Gama, the famous explorer who died in Cochin, was buried here and his remains were later transferred to Lisbon.

Pardesi Synagogue

Built by the Sephardic Jews in 1568; the spacious halls of this synagogue showcase Belgian chandeliers, hand-painted tiles, gold crowns, oriental rugs, elegant clock tower, and ornate wooden benches.

Kerala Folklore Theatre and Museum

A guided tour of the rich history and heritage of Kerala; this museum is home to various artifacts including masks, costumes, jewelry, and priceless manuscripts. The evening performances in the theater include Kathakali, the famous masked dance of Kerala.

Chinese Fishing Nets

Cochin’s another foreign influence, these huge cantilever nets are believed to have been introduced by the Chinese travelers from the court of Kublai Khan in the 13th century. A distinctive feature of Cochin, you can see these enormous fishing nets on the Fort Cochin Beach.
